Character Parade- Literacy Week

On Tuesday, Milford School had to dress up in a recycled costume. They had a big parade so everyone could see the fabulous outfits everyone had put together. Everyone looked spectacular! This was all to do with Literacy Week. We did a whole lot of exciting activities and had so many fabulous visitors read to us. Some of the readers were Andy Griffiths, Mark Somerset and a whole lot more.

We had a great Literacy Week and thanks to all that participated in this event!!!

Science Week!

It was a blast on Monday the 7th of May 2012 because our school had Science Week! Everyone was so excited about it - even me! Science is where you get to learn lots of amazing things! On Tuesday we had two wonderful people named Alan and Emily from Science in a Van.  They were here to talk about science.  First Alan did an awesome trick.He told us to look in the middle of the circle and the circle spins around. Next he told us the look at his head so we all did. Then his head shrunk and everyone, even the teachers laughed because it was so so funny. Then he did it again but he spun it the other way around. When we looked at his head his head was growing big! He and Emily did a whole lot of science experiments! On Wednesday in our class with our teacher we did an experiment.  It was trying to inflate a balloon with warm water, yeast and sugar then we shook it. It did blow up but in a few minutes. Then when it inflated everyone was so impressed. Every day children did experiments in their classes.We had a blast during Science Week and were hoping to do it again some day!

Visit from Andy Griffiths

On Friday the 11th of May, Andy Griffiths (a very famous children's book author) came to Milford School. He is an Australian and is very humorous and definitely a very highly talented person and writer. He told us all we needed to know about certain body parts and what they're used for in a different way. Andy Griffiths told us about the combination of his character Andy, who is quite a odd ball and definitely crazy. He told us that he would always have a bad and doomed ending for his stories. We had an exciting and wild time with Andy Griffiths.

Guest speaker talk about public speaking

On Thursday the 10th of May 2012, a guest speaker called Marcelle came to Milford School to talk about public speaking. She came in to a very mild clap and got everyone to clap wildly. She convinced us that what the audience can see and what they can hear is more important then what you say. The words are 7% important, sounds 38% important and looks 55% important. She got the audience (Year 4,5,6 at Milford School) to become more confident at public speaking. Overall everyone had an AWESOME time!

                                     

Cooking damper and bush skills (camp)

Last term, the Year 6's went to camp. One of the cool activities was bush skills and cooking skills. We made camp damper and my one caught on fire! Then we did bush skills. We had to build our own shelter to shelter from the water (rain). 

IT WAS SO FUN!!!!!!!!

Year 6 Camp! Monster Relay Game!

On the last day of the camp we played  a funMonster Relay Game!!! There were these activities..........

• Onion Eating
• Finding a country on a map
• Doing tricks on the trampoline
• Flying Fox
• Swimming
• Singing and Drawing
• Archery
• Climbing Wall

We worked in teams and it was a race to find the clues and complete each challenge.  The onion eating was particulary challenging!  We had so much fun that we didn't want the game to end.

One of our tasks was to sing a song in our team.

ANZAC Day

On the 24th of April was the ANZAC day service at Milford School. ANZAC day is a day to remember the soldiers that died in the Gallipolli Peninsula,Turkey. ANZAC stands for Australian New Zealand Army Corps. At the service, a NZ army soldier came and played 'The Last Post' on the trumpet. We sang the National Anthem Of NZ then two Year 6's each made a speech. On the 25th of April was the actual ANZAC day. Most people got the day off and nearly everything was closed until 1pm. Also dawn services were held at 5am. It was 1915, World War 1 Gallipolli Peninsula,Turkey. ANZAC Troops were fighting against the German Troops near the poppy fields.
