Christmas Festival of Song

Christmas festival of song 2011 was a great hit! The Juniors sang beautifully on the 6th and the Seniors on the 7th.  First the kids sang all the traditional Christmas carols (One Child, When a Child is born etc.) and then sang more fun songs (Kiwi Jingle Bells, Grandma got run over by a reindeer etc.) In between there were bible readings and children playing music.

The Stu Duval show

On Thursday 28th October, Stu Duval (a famous New Zealand artist and actor) came to our school to put on a show. He told us his very own made up Christmas story called Jingle Bull. He also showed us how he learned to draw at school. He taught us one very important thing- S, 2 dots, a prickle and a line. His show was very entertaining and funny. Rhiana Merota described the show as “cool and interesting”. Janice Lim said the show was “creative and funny”.

Friends.com Drama Performance

On Thursday the 18th August two people from Friends.com came to put on a show for the Year 5/6’s. The show was about how to be safe on the internet and not to text bully. The show featured four characters; Emma, the new girl, Hannah, a bully, Dylan, a ‘loser’ who has a fake facebook account and Mike, a popular person. We learnt that it is against the law to have a facebook account if you are underage or not if that is not your real identity, never let anyone use your phone, even if you know them really well and much more. Everybody learned a lot and had a lot of fun!

Book Fair

The book fair is an event that is on for a week at Milford School during Literacy Week. The Book Fair is in the Library and students can buy books there. The students can also buy posters. With every purchase the student will receive a free bookmark to go with their book. There are many books to choose from such as Justin Bieber books, Royal family Diaries, Art and Crafts books, and many more. Janice from Room1 said, “I like doing the book fair every year because it gives me a chance to read books that I haven’t ever read before." Kate from Room 1 said, “I think it’s great because it gives an opportunity to buy cool books and posters and get awesome bookmarks”.  Milford School students have really enjoyed Literacy Week and the book fair.
