Tread Lightly Caravan

On 4^th and5^th October, Years 5and 6 did some activities at the Tread Lightly Caravan. The purpose of Tread Lightly Caravan coming was to teach us about recycling, waste of electricity and water. There were 6 activities that made us learn and think. We learned that a lot of electricity and water is needed to power objects.

 When you throw the parts away that are found in computers and mobile phones etc, the mercury in parts could injure and kill someone. We had a competition between groups where we had to match the parts of the computer to a card. The winning group got a prize. We did lots of other activities and we learned that we need to save our environment.

We had lots of fun in the Tread Lightly caravan and learned a lot of new information. 

The exercise bike converted kinetic energy into electrial energy so that we could learn how much energy it takes to power different appliances.

We learned about all the different parts inside electrial goods and that it is important to recycle and dispose of them carefully.

Salvation Toy Drive

At the end of Term Two, a lot of children brought a brand new toy for the disadvantaged children in Auckland to have something to open at Christmas. We had a special assembly where Ms Baker put all toys on the stage. She made us think how lucky we are and how sad it will be for the children who don’t get a present in Christmas. St John’s Ambulance Visit

On 2 August, the St John visited Years 1-3. They learned about basic first aid. Ruby from Room 16 thought it was fun. She told us that they talked about firemen and they watched movie. The movie was about the boy and his dad being sick and called 111. Miss Perry, a teacher from Room 16, said it was informative and they learned lots of things including what to do if somebody is sick. Children also learned about what not to do if people are sick.
