Up coming camp - Year 6

On the 2nd of April the Year 6 students will be going to Carey Park for camp. We will be going for 4 days. At camp we will be doing a whole lot of exciting activities including river study, kayaking, rifle shooting, archery, climbing wall, rope swing into a waterhole, flying fox and much, much more. Everyone is very excited and we can't wait to start our camping adventure!

Parent Interviews.

On Thursday the 22nd of March 2012, we had Parent Interviews in the hall. We left school at 2 o'clock but some people had to wait until 3 o'clock in Room 1. Some students went in the hall with their parents during the interview but others didn't. We had the parent interviews to inform the parents about our progress at school and what our next learning steps will be. The teachers shared ideas about how our parents can help us with our learning at home.

Hockey Day

On Friday the 23rd of March 2012 in our school assembly we had some special hockey visitors to try to get Milford School students enthusiastic about hockey. Mrs Fisher desperately needs more hockey players. One of the visitor's was James, who is the newest Black Sticks national hockey team member! After the assembly, some kids played outside with James and some people asked for autographs. We are looking forward to hearing about all the successes of our school hockey teams this season! Good luck hockey Teams!

Recently the Year 5s had a week of EOTC which is Education Outside The Classroom.  One day they went to Snow Planet and the Year 5s learnt how to SnowBoard and Ski. They also went to North Harbour Gymnastics. On another day the Year 5s went to the Volvo Boat Race and also got to ride the small opti boats. In addition they went the Millenium Institute Centre one day. On the Friday they travelled to Motuihe Island to plant trees.  They all had a very adventurous and educational week!
The week was AMAZING!

Red Puppy Donation

On Thursday 27th March 2012, there will be a fundraiser day called Red Puppy Day. Everyone in the school will wear a red top to school, bring a dog soft toy if they have one and bring a gold coin donation. The money that we raise will go towards the Guide Dog Foundation. It costs a lot of money to train or/and get a guide dog. Please participate in this event. It will be fun and very helpful!

FOCUS for the FORTNIGHT 12 March to 23 March

Self-Control. What does this mean and howe can show we value this by:
Self Control
Along with understanding our Vision statement of “Inspired to Learn and
Achieve” it is very important to know the values we expect of children
attending Milford School.

This fortnight we are looking at can we demonstrate self-control in our daily lives?
Self–control means taking responsibility for our actions and our words.

Thank you to Mrs Vane for writing each of our 'Focus of the Fortnight' pages.

*Acting sensibly when we are not being directly supervised.
*Completing activities we have been asked to complete.
*Owning up to something when asked or when we have made a
mistake.
*Behaving in a responsible manner at all times.
*Knowing when we can act in different ways and what triggers
us to act in different ways.
*Looking after our belongings.
*Knowing what makes us behave or act or speak in a particular way.
*Being trusted to do as we have been asked without anyone having to check up
on us.
*Taking our time to think through a particular dilemma and not acting before
we have considered all options.
*Acting and speaking in a way we would expect of others.
*Thinking before acting or speaking.
*Not doing or saying anything that will harm or hurt others.
*Considering consequences of our actions.
*Looking carefully at ourselves before blaming others around us.
*Not making excuses for our mistakes but accepting we can change our
behaviour.
*Not allowing others to influence our actions.

Room 4's Wonderful Music and Art!

On Friday 16th of March 2012 we had a assembly.  One class, which is Room 4, had a wonderful display of their Healthy Body art.  It was colourful! They also performed an amazing song with a Ukelele called 3R's.The three R's stand for Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. Their art was FANTASTIC as was their Ukelele playing! They did it carefully and neatly!
